Do we use all those gadgets in our kitchen?

September 1, 2010 by

We have all sorts of gadgets now to help us in pretty much every area of our lives, but one area that seems to have more gadgets than most is the kitchen. You can buy ice cream makers, spinning chip fryers, salad dryers, toastie makers, things which supposedly help you poach an egg without a mess (and have never worked for us), machines to cook your egg without water and so much more. The question is, will we use any of them more than once?

If we’re honest with ourselves then we know that these gadgets are usually overpriced, they are really hard to clean after use, and they will be stuffed into the cupboard after just a few uses. The next time you are eyeing up some expensive gadget in a shop then you need to walk away and have a think about whether it is actually useful or just a gimmick, and if you will actually use it much. So an ice cream maker sounds good, but you’ll soon find out it is a huge amount of effort for something you can buy a lot cheaper from the supermarket, but if you like toast then a toaster which can fit a lot of different things in it will probably be great for you. Something like an indoor electric turkey fryer would be good if you struggle to fit everything into your oven when cooking turkey, but one of those little blow torches to crisp the skin is probably never going to get used.

So you can see that there are some gadgets out there which make cooking easier, you just need to dig around to find them. One of the easiest methods to find useful gadgets is to ask your friends what they couldn’t live without, then you find out the gadgets that they are using on a regular basis.

herb butter is really good. Just take some fresh basil, thyme, rosemary and parsley and a little fresh lemon juice and simmer that in about a stick or so of butter. Be careful not to burn it. Then baste the turkey with it, maybe even inject it. It's a very pungent, earthy taste, very good.

paypal just wants your money they don't want to provide anything to make it easy on you. I get a quarterly statement and I haven't done anything on paypal in over a year.
